The fan was the biggest problem for me. I got the courage to buy it despite the reviews warning of fan noise. But when I owned a mini-dv and in the past was quite ok with the noise of the tape, I went in for TM700. But when I turned on the camera and the fan kicks in, I knew it was tough. You can hear the fan even if you keep the camera a few feet away, and there's no way you can avoid the microphone picked it up. The only hope that the background noise that drowns out. I tried a couple of test shots and without ambient noise, but fan noise is annoying to an extent been taken from these treatments. The noise was taken with the AGC off (or maybe my ears were aware before then).
The photo was of wheat (in Auto mode, in the indoor corraborating Corbett multimedia experience in a previous study). I did try the open.
Since then I've got Sony CX550 and we have tried and decidedaccumulate (silent angel video is much better). In comparison, the TM700 will accept a few good points - small, has a simple menu system, as well as still images and record 1080p flat. But net-net the TM700 is the loser.
